Sale-a-bration is quickly coming to a close. With that in mind I wanted to showcase the wonderful stamps from the Stylish Sketches stamp set. I picked the fox to be the focal point of my card today.
Fox Card Using Watercolor Pencils
I really enjoy using my watercolor pencils from Stampin’ Up! and this image absolutely lent itself to a fun watercolor technique. All you really need is Fluid Watercolor paper, your favorite colors of the watercolor pencils and a watercolor painter…and your imagination.

Below are the list of supplies, measurements and instructions. I hope you enjoy making this card as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Supplies:
- Stamp Set: Stylish Sketches, Amazing Phrases
- Dies: Stitched Rectangles, Deckled Rectangles
- Ink: Staz-On; Mossy Meadow
- Cardstock: Fluid Watercolor, Basic White, Crumb Cake, Old Olive, He’s the Man DSP
- Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils: Bermuda Bay, Old Olive, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry
- Accessories: watercolor painter, adhesive of choice (I like to use Tombow); Sarah Sand Twill Ribbon; Stampin’ Dimensionals
Measurements:
- Crumb Cake: 8 ½” x 5 ½”; score at 4 ¼”
- Old Olive: 5” x 3 ¾”; 5 ¼” x 4” (inside of card)
- Basic White: 5” x 3 ¾” (inside of card); scrap for sentiment
- DSP: 2 pieces 4” x 2”; 3” x 2”
- Ribbon: 5”
Instructions:
- Use Staz-On ink and stamp fox on Fluid Watercolor paper centering in the middle
- Use the 3rd to largest stitched rectangle die and die cut the stamped fox
- Color the “shaded parts” of the fox (I consider the shaded spots the parts on the image that have the squiggly black lines) with Cajun Craze being careful not to color in the entire fox. Leave a lot of white space.
- Use Crushed Curry to color in areas where there would be a highlight (such as the fox’s face, the middle of his tail, etc.) – again not coloring in the entire image- leaving quite a bit of white space
- Use the watercolor painter to “color” in the remaining white areas of the fox by starting where you have laid down color with the color pencils and bring that color into the white areas. Use as little water as possible, enough just to move the color around.
- Be sure to clean your watercolor painter off on a paper towel before moving to another color

- Color the sky with Bermuda Bay coloring in where you would want the sky laying down quite a bit of color. Go back in some areas and deepen the sky with the color pencil. Trace the squiggly lines around the fox with Bermuda Bay as this gives the effect as if the fox is moving.
- Color the grass with Old Olive coloring in where you want the grass to be laying down quite a bit of color. Deepen the grass underneath the fox with more Old Olive.
- Use the watercolor painter to spread the colored pencil in the sky and the grass. Be sure to clean your painter on a paper towel before moving between colors

- Randomly stamp the background in Mossy Meadow on the Old Olive cardstock using the branch and leaf stamp from the Stylish Sketches stamp set.
- Using Mossy Meadow, stamp the same branch and leaf stamp on the white cardstock cut for the inside of the card.
- Use the smallest and second smallest Deckled Rectangles dies to cut the two pieces of He’s the Man DSP (refer to photo to determine which die to use for each piece of DSP)
- Adhere the inside basic white cardstock to the Old Olive cardstock (inside size).
- Adhere this layer to the inside of the card.

- Adhere the two pieces of die cut DSP to the Old Olive cardstock for the front of the card as shown in the photo.
- Adhere the water-colored image to the Old Olive cardstock making sure to allow the DSP pieces to show above.
- Adhere this lay to the Crumb Cake card base with dimensionals.
- Stamp the sentiment in Mossy Meadow on the scrap piece of basic white cardstock and cut to size.
- Fold the ribbon in half and adhere to the sentiment, fraying the edges of the ribbon a bit.
- Adhere the sentiment and ribbon layer to the front of the card with dimensionals
